President & CEO, Communities First, Inc.
Glenn Wilson is President/CEO of Communities First, Inc., a thriving nonprofit community development corporation in Flint, Michigan. Communities First, Inc. was founded in response to the great need that distressed communities face in regards to economic development and affordable housing. The organization has secured more than $26 million in funding, primarily for real estate development projects and provided jobs to more than 200 people in just six years, due to Mr. Wilson’s leadership. CFI’s arts and culture program, Culture Shock impacts more than 13,000 people each year and the organization is constantly being recognized for their innovative programs and projects.
Glenn currently serves on the Michigan Housing Council Board of Directors, Michigan Housing Council Finance and Development Committee and the Community and Economic Development Association of Michigan Board of Directors (Board Chair). He also serves on the boards of the Mass Transportation Authority and Hurley Foundation. Glenn participates in committees at the Flint Institute of Arts and Flint Institute of Music and has a special interest in increasing equity in the arts.
Mr. Wilson mentors other aspiring nonprofit professionals and college students with the purpose of connecting them to resources and opportunities to see their dreams come true. He consistently makes time for those that desire mentorship, rejoicing in their successes and supporting them in their mistakes. The organization’s vision attracts nearly 250 volunteers each year, many of which serve to gain knowledge and skills that benefit them in their daily lives.
Glenn is the recipient of the American Express Aspire Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Young Professional Award from the Flint and Genesee Chamber of Commerce and the Michigan Chronicle’s 40 Under 40 award.
All of this involvement is helping to shape the housing and community development industry in a variety of ways at the city, county, and state level. Mr. Wilson is passionate about community and economic development, rebuilding distressed areas and inspiring change in the lives of others.
