George Wilkinson is the President of NorthGate, a Tier 1 warehouse-based, third-party logistics (3PL) company in Flint. He joined NorthGate in July 2017.
Wilkinson is formerly a Group Vice President for the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce. In that role, he had responsibility for the Economic Development Group, Shared Services Group, Grants & Development Group, Communications, Marketing and the Flint & Genesee Convention and Visitors Bureau. He joined the Flint & Genesee Chamber after having served as the Chief Operating Officer and President for Walker International Transportation, and Vice President for Dana Corporation.
Wilkinson has also served as a General Motors’ Executive for Global Logistics, with responsibility for GM’s $5.7 billion global logistics supply chain. In that role, he led the efforts of four regional directors to ensure the implementation of a globally cohesive supply chain strategy. He joined GM in 1984, serving in a variety of positions with increasing responsibility in the materials, inventory, purchasing, quality assurance, logistics, and delivery disciplines. This included three years in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as Logistics Director for General Motors Argentina.
He has Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University.
Wilkinson is an ordained minister and is actively engaged in the community. He is vice chair of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint; a board member of Genesee County Department of Human Services, Hamilton Community Health Network and Habitat for Humanity; and is chair of the Education Foundation for Flint Community Schools.
Wilkinson is often requested to speak on leadership laws that positively impact performance. He has spoken at the National Private Truck Fleet Annual Conference, Canadian National Executive Conference, Automotive Logistics, National Black MBA Seminar, Black Enterprise Leadership Conference, American Express Executive Meeting, United Negro College Fund, the GM Diversity Supplier Conference and the Detroit Transportation Club.
Wilkinson and his wife, Sophia, live in Grand Blanc. They have two adult children.
